25 years with Syngenta

Kevin Steele, Logistics and Ordering Customer Services Adviser at Syngenta, is celebrating 25 years of service with the company this week.

Kevin joined the company on 12th November 1984 within the Quality Control Department for vegetable seed and was responsible for testing the germination rates and ensuring everything that was sent to customers met the required standard.

In 1987, Kevin moved over to the young plants business into his current role as Logistics and Ordering Customer Services Adviser.

In his early days in the role, Kevin would have to manually fill in forms with the young plants order for UK and Ireland and fax over to Holland (Syngenta Young Plant Distribution is based in De Lier, Netherlands). Now everything is completed directly on the computer systems. A big delivery week in the late 80’s would have consisted of around 10,000 boxes, now it’s over 70,000 boxes.

In May 2009, Syngenta closed it offices at Halsall, Lancashire and relocated to Fulbourn, Cambridgeshire. Kevin relocated with the business and now lives in the area.

James Clovis, Flowers Business Manager, UK and Ireland said:

“Having worked with Kevin at the Halsall offices, I was delighted when Kevin agreed to relocate with the business, the knowledge he has brought to the newer members of the team has been immense and we all appreciate the experience he brings.”

Commenting on his 25 years with the company, Kevin said:

“I have seen many changes and challenges over the years; there has never been a dull moment! But ultimately it’s the people that I have worked with that have kept me here for so long.”

Syngenta is a world-leading agribusiness committed to sustainable agriculture through innovative research and technology. The company is a leader in crop protection, and ranks third in the high-value commercial seeds market. Sales in 2007 were approximately $9.2 billion. Syngenta employs over 21,000 people in more than 90 countries. Syngenta is listed on the Swiss stock exchange (SYNN) and in New York (SYT). Further information is available at
